bad-architects.network (www.bad-architects.net) is an emerging internet-based network of young architects, founded in 2004. Currently it has seventeen members (america/asia/europe): Christopher van Kley BAD-ATL, Georgia, US; Luhki Heranisvari BAD-DPS, Indonesia; Peter Elfstrand BAD-GOT, Sweden; Jan Monica BAD-HAM, Germany; Ruediger Haag BAD-HGH, Germany; Ursula Faix and Paul Burgstaller BAD-INN, Austria; Peter Roy Alexander BAD-LHR, United Kingdom; Damien Guiot BAD-LIL, France; Alva Sondakh BAD-MDC, Indonesia; Lorenzo Bini BAD-MIL and Efisia Cipolloni BAD-MIL, both Italy, Anders Melsom and Kathrine Nyhus BAD-OSL, Norway; Mike Wsol BAD-RIC, Virginia, US; Robert Wurbs BAD-SZG, Austria as well as Staale Andresen BAD-SVG, Norway.

The team composition varies from project to project: e.g. the project DE-tro-IT was developed by BAD-INN and BAD-OSL. A different project, library competition was developed by four cells (BAD-INN, BAD-LIL, BAD-MIL and BAD-OSL).

Each cell also acts independently on a regional/local basis with own projects, whereas a BAD-project has to be developed by at least two cells. Sometimes the people working together have never met physically, also Ethan Zuckerman was an internet acquaintance to the group. bad-architects.network attempts to find experimental methods of collaboration which reinforce the exchange between architects. we want to collaborate with professionals, because we are convinced about them, not because they are living close to us.

workshops.bad-architect.network is a sub-label of bad-architects.network for student workshops within the envelope of bad-architects.network organized by its members. The unique situation of network collaboration and the resulting access to the individual knowledge, culture, consultancy and capacity of the different members in Asia, America and Europe, holding current or future teaching positions, will be a unique benefit to the workshops.

an important factor in our approach is the work with networks and the idea that cities in the 21th century are not self-enclosed but form a network of social, economical and cultural relations with the region and are under constant influence of global processes, however always keeping in mind, to scale those ideas also down to the very local needs and local culture.

against this backdrop the workshops.bad-architects.network means not only putting our exceptional design ability and the professional experience at the service of academic institutions but also moreover enriching the academic development of the students by enabling them to meet students from abroad and working together with them on urban topics relevant in the current and future situation of cities creating a network of young architects.
